How Ipoh got its name !!!

Recently, I had read one article about IPOH (My Beloved City)..Eventhough I grow up at IPOH but I never bother to know about the history of IPOH.

 Do you know How Ipoh got Its Name?

The first person that come out with idea to call Ipoh as Epau is JWW Birch. JWW Birch is the first Resident in Perak. He marked the town as Epau on a map he sketched in his journal. 

Then there are 2 more mat salleh come out with the same idea to call Ipoh like Epu and Epoh. This 2 person is Major JF McNair and Hugh Low. Hugh Low has become the chief village after his announce Epoh as the name for that district in 1879.

In 1884, one person from French name Jacques de Morgan marked Ipoh as Sakai (Malay Village). He also said that name Ipoh coming from the Upas tree which the Malays called pokok Ipoh. FYI, the poisonous latex from the Upas tree have been used by the orang asli as the poison that put on their blowpipe darts and used to hunt.
