Suria FM Outside Broadcast (OB) at Putrajaya Lake

On 5 May 2018, Suria FM was given trust by Marina Putrajaya Sdn. Bhd. to hold an event in their cruise boat. Marina Putrajaya Sdn. Bhd. website (http://cruisetasikputrajaya.com/).

Suria FM and other departments within Suria FM will be involved in this event, and the engineering department has been given the task of conducting an outside broadcast (OB) on a cruise boat.

This is a very rare OB because we never do the OB inside the cruise boat and we worry about the internet stability. Usually, we do the OB in static conditions like a shopping mall or on-the-ground place. We can apply the UNIFI line for better connectivity.

But this exercise is quite challenging and we know there will be a hiccup at a certain area when the cruise starts moving. We do some testing and below is what we do.

First, we test our Quantum Light device, the device that will help us transmit the audio from the cruise boat to our radio studio at Damansara Three. This device can host 2 sim cards and has a Wifi dongle. We put 2 sim cards, 1 is Maxis and 1 more is a Digi sim card. We connect the hot spot from Mr. Anuar's phone to the Wifi dongle. We test the connectivity by doing a speed test on a laptop and the result is quite ok.

Second, we need to do an analysis of the size of the boat and how the event will run (where we going to put the Mixer and also a table for the microphone).

Below is the draw that we make during the discussion and we also test the system one day before the event is running.

* Test the equipment inside our MCR room (one day before the event)

* We using a Quantum Light (QL) system to do the OB, benefit of using this QL is we can put 2 sim cards and connect the hot spot using the WIFI dongle.
