What People Think, When I Said I Work as Network Engineer.

When people ask me what I do for a living? and when I say I work as Network Engineer they will ask what is that? 

Before I tell people, usually, I will be imaging 7 OSI layers starting from the Physical layer, Data Link Layer, Transport Layer, Network Layer, Session Layer, Presentation Layer, and Application Layer. I ask myself whether I should explain to them in more detail or just tell them that I fix internet issues or WIFI issues.

If I said, I have to ;

  • monitor the network activity, can block users' Youtube and Facebook.
  • doing a patch for new firmware for the firewall.
  • make network diagrams for better network flow understanding.
That will be a long story and a very long discussion.  but most of my friends do not really understand or do not really care about the process of the network. for an easy answer, I said I work as an IT technician and people will be easy to understand.

In the eye of ordinary people, people will understand that IT technicians will fix the internet if the internet is down. If their laptop doesn't have WIFI or any issues with their computer or handphone.

If I said I work as an IT technician, there think I would be able to fix anything related to IT except programming.
